Name: Graham Irvine
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I joined the Board in 2005 and have held the position of Chairperson since that point in time.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Education, Diploma of Teaching, Master of Education, Graduate Diploma of Divinity, currently completing a Master of Divinity, Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment
My working career has been in the Education sector firstly as a Secondary teacher and then as a Primary School Principal. (My role at the time of joining the Board.) While I am not currently teaching I have maintained my connections with education through Christian Schools Australia and of course TCC.
Name: Ron Patterson
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I was appointed Board Director at the AGM in 2016. (I previously held the position of Board Director from 2003 to 2013). I am also an Elder at Thornlie Church of Christ.
Qualification: Bachelor of Engineering (Communications).
Prior to retirement, Ron worked at Curtin University as a Senior System Engineer in the Information Technology area, as a Lecturer and Support Staff, managing projects with budgets running into millions of dollars. My experience comes from working with professional and trade related companies within a budget to provide the most up to date IT infrastructure for the university’s academic staff and students. One of my driving priorities is to see Christ-centred Education made available to families as a ‘first choice not an option’. I also have a history with the College as a parent and one of the founding families of the College in 1984, with three children attending and graduating then gaining further qualifications at both University and TAFE level.
Name: Shane Madden
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I am new to the Board in 2017
Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology & Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography.
I am a family man, father of three boys, with an interest in biblical apologetics. I am an experienced senior medical sonographer in both private and public health sectors with experience in management and tutoring. I also have experience running a small home business and I am currently embarking on the development of a health service company. I have a passion for helping children from struggling backgrounds.
Name: Lennon Smartt
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I joined the Board in 2017
Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts (English and Journalism), Diploma Counselling, Certificate IV Pastoral Leadership
I attended Thornlie Christian College for over a decade graduating as College Head boy in 2008 and graduated with a scholarship entrance into University.
Since graduating I have completed my Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma and Cert IV. I have worked at Perth Christian Life Centre in various roles, at Murdoch University as the Campus Sports Development Officer and more recently has undertaken a full-time role at Lakeside Baptist Church and Recreation Centre as their Youth and Young Adults Pastor.
I have a passion for people and sport having coached in the Western Australian Basketball League and more recently I was appointed as the Men’s Semi Pro Assistant Coach in the State Basketball League, coaching the Lakeside Lightning.
Name: Pastor Renier van der Klashorst
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I have been on the Board since 2015
Qualifications: Master of Divinity, Master of Theology,
I am currently serving as Senior Pastor of Thornlie Church of Christ and have led a church plant in Mackay whilst working as Area Chaplain for Scripture Union Queensland.
I am married with three children attending TCC.
Name: Mark Turner
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I was appointed to the Board in 2017
Qualifications: CTA (Rhodes University) South Africa. CA (SA) and FCA – both relinquished.
Following my retirement, I relinquished my Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Accountants In Australia and membership of the Institute of Company Directors.
Prior to retiring, I was a Senior Partner in the Partnership of Price Waterhouse and Coopers based in the Perth office. I recently stepped down as Chairman of West Australian Shalom Group Inc, a Not for Profit Association whose purpose is to “restore the lives of men and families in our community”.
Name: Trevor Beard
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I have held the position of Thornlie Church of Christ Elders Representative on the Board since 2011.
Qualifications: Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety and Training, Qualified Tradesman in Carpentry and Shop Fitting.
I moved to Perth from Queensland in 1998 and have 3 children who are all married and were home schooled through the ACE system. I have been a follower of Christ for over 40 years and in that time I have served on many Church Boards in a variety of positions. I am currently the Regional Manager for Mobile Mission Maintenance Australia, a mission that “Serves those who Serve”. I also work in a secular job as a Perway Welder Offsider with Brookfield Rail. As a member of Thornlie Church of Christ I have watched Thornlie Christian College grow from small beginnings to a school that has great respect in the community for its Christian World View which is evident throughout all aspects in the life of the College.
Name: Rodney Olsen
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: I am the Vice Chairman and have been a Board member since 2011.
I am married to Pauline and have two children who attended and graduated from Thornlie Christian College. My background is as an experienced communicator, having worked in radio for over 25 years as well as writing and consulting for television programs on both the Seven and Ten networks. I have gained valuable insights into education while working for the Education Department for a number of years and have previously been a board member of Bible Society in Australia (WA) and have served on the National Council of Bible Society in Australia.
Currently I am a Relationship Manager with Compassion Australia working to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. This role gives me the opportunity to relate to a diverse range of Christian churches and I am part of the leadership at Southern River Church of Christ
Name: Kumesh Haripersad
Position on the Thornlie Christian College Board: This is my first year on the Board
Qualifications: Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Commerce Degree and Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting.
As the Business Manager at the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre, Curtin University I oversee the business, finance and events portfolio of the Centre. During my professional career I have held various positions in business and finance in both the public and private sectors and led a number of diverse business-operations in which I specialised in strategic management, continuous improvement, and project management. My involvement and experience in Governance, having sat on other Boards and Committees, has provided me the knowledge and experience to make a valued contribution to the College. I am married with two boys who attend Thornlie Christian College.
