Secondary School: Mrs Helen Balding
Ten weeks have slipped by and there is only one week left until the end of the second term. Now is a good time to reflect and appreciate the many achievements and God’s hand at work amongst the Staff, students, and the College community. It is important that we give thanks for the many success stories and to those who have worked hard to achieve to the best of their ability.
All students in the Secondary School have completed their exams and received their results and in a weeks time they can look forward to a well earned holiday break.

Reports
Every student in the Secondary School will receive a Semester One Academic report. Tje report is an indication of how your child has performed over term one and two and is a combined result of assignments, tasks and examination results.
I would like to advise parents to read the explanatory notes which will accompany the report. The explanatory notes will be your guide as to how to read the report. There is also a box on the report which will be ticked if an interview is required. If this is the case on the report that you receive, we ask you to ring the College in week one of term three and make an appointment to see the teacher. Alternatively, if an interview has not been indicated and you would like to discuss a result or comment with the subject teacher, you are also invited to phone and make an appointment as well.
May I also encourage parents to spend a little time discussing the report with their child and to assist them to plan some worthwhile strategies and goals for the coming term. For Middle School students during the holidays is a good time for you to write up your new goals and study timetable on your Student Planner. We congratulate all of the students (and there are many) that have put in the effort and achieved grades comparable to their ability.
Secondary School Assembly
Last Thursday, the whole of the Secondary School met together for assembly to hear Brett Stanford from the group “How Ridiculous” come and talk to the students on how they had become a success story throwing a basketball and encouraging all to have a dream of what they would like to achieve in life as this was so important to being successful and from the dreams setting worthwhile goals and sustaining the motivation to achieve the goals. “How Ridiculous” is a group of four Christian “stunt” basket-ballers who have done amazing stunts to raise money for Compassion, The videos that were shown had the students glued asking the question “how can they do that”?
Work Experience - Year 10
A reminder that Work Experience placement information forms are due to be returned, at the latest next Monday July 1. If you are having a problem with finding a placement please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Mrs Bonnington for assistance. May I thank all of the parents who have managed to assist in finding a placement for their child. This has been very much appreciated. We will now finalise the necessary paperwork with the employer.
Learning Area News
Health and Physical Education Department
On Thursday, June 21, 18 Senior School girls journeyed up to the Swan Valley region to participate in the WACCSA Interschool Girls AFL Carnival. After a couple of weeks of training, the girls were excited but a bit unsure of what to expect as some were playing the game for the first time.
It showed a little in the first half as the girls were a little intimidated by the tall and powerful Swan team and were down by 4 goals at half time. The second half proved to be a much more even affair as the girls realised they could match Swan. A brilliant diving tackle and kick for goal by Denika Marciano provided our girls with their first goal of the day, and it was quickly followed by another goal to Amberlie Evans from a strong mark in the goal square. The girls ended up losing by 4 goals, but managed to keep the second half level which was a great achievement and made the Coach very proud.
The second game saw TCC compete against Ellenbrook. Having a lot more confidence, the girls started much stronger and kicked the first four goals of the game. Two more goals in the second half saw the girls run out winners by about 5 goals. The win meant that TCC finished second for the day, a great result!
The team were well-lead by co-captains Amberlie Evans who kicked three goals for the day, Courtney Wallis who rucked valiantly for most of the day, and Emere Gard who lay some crunching tackles in the backline. Donnah Holloway provided some great run from the backline, Rachel Murphy was a rock on the fullback line and Tahlia Pinci and Talitha Stephens ran through the midfield all day, chasing and tackling like terriers. Congratulations to other goal-kickers Seprotina Peniata, Morgan Bennett, Maddison Davison and Amy Grasso. Thank you also to Daniel Fleay and Michael Long for helping out with umpiring for the day.
Drama Department
Yr 11 Drama excursion to Enron at WAAPA
On the twentieth of June, the Year 11 Drama students went to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts to view the play ENRON put on by its second year students.
The play was about the rise and fall of Jeffrey Skilling (CEO of multi-billion dollar company Enron from 1992 to 2001). The play was brilliantly written, directed and performed and everyone involved in its production should be immensely proud. Of particular note was the non-realist elements in the performance that explained in visual terms the difficult economic concepts contained in the show (including 3 debt-munching Velociraptors from Jurassic Park), and helped keep the audience actively involved in the plot.
All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We laughed, we cried and we learned. It was a wonderful night and we all thank Mr Willesee for taking us

There were seventeen Schools in total categorised into seven secondary schools, six large primary schools and four small primary schools. The secondary schools in which we (Thornlie Christian College) were involved had six games to play and the results are as follows:
Game 1: TCC vs. Swan (TCC won by 2 goals to 1). Our goal scorers were Samuel Wong and Lee Spence
Game 2: TCC vs. Rehoboth (TCC lost by 1 goal to 2).Our goal scorer was Jai McCamley
Game 3: TCC vs. Mundaring (TCC won by 5 goals to nil). The goal scorers were Braydon Beckley with 2 goals, Samuel Wong with 1 goal, Joshua Smith with 1 goal and Jai McCamley with 1goal
Game 4: TCC vs. Foundation (TCC won by 1 goal to nil). The goal scorer was Brendan McCamley. This is the team that came second but with much lesser points behind us
Game 5: TCC vs. Southern Hills (TCC won by 3 goals to nil). The goal scorers were Jai McCamley with 2 goals and Samuel Wong with one goal.
Game 6: TCC vs. Emmanuel (TCC won by eight (8) goals to nil). The goal scorers were Jai McCamley with three(3),Brayden Beckley with two (2), Andrew Bagayana with one (1), Lee Spence with one (1) and Samuel Wong with another one (1).
Overall, this was a fantastic and fulfilling performance which is a result of the handwork and dedication these boys have shown throughout the training sessions we have had in the past weeks. It was a team effort which was also coupled with good behaviour that reflects the college ethos. My individual gratitude goes to the college leadership, staff and parents who supported this endeavour from the beginning to the end.
God richly bless you all and may He continue to be glorified even through these children’s gifts and talents.

The 12 College Prefects and Mrs Balding attended the inaugural Christian Schools Australia Leadership Conference held overnight at the CYC campsite in Baldivis. Students ranging from Year 8 through to Year 12 represented various CSA schools. The two days included workshops that ran throughout the day discussing the different styles of leadership, the qualities and characteristics needed to be an effective leader, how to plan and run events, guest speakers who spoke of their leadership roles within the community and in their place of work , worship and devotional times, one of which was led by Mr Khaira and a time of service where each spent some time painting the walls of the Games Room building. In the afternoon, each was challenged with different activities on the adventure course and assisting each other to work as a team to accomplish some of the tasks.
